Birch Vessel

What you get with my story vessels is stories.

I guess you can say I’m going through an experimental phase again. I get locked into making a kuksa a night which can be grueling on the hands but exciting all the same. I will carve from 5pm until 3am sometimes, in a fever like state digging away until a I find a kuksa in that log.

This is a very simple form, it’s practically a drinking bowl. Sometimes when I carve cups I like to think of how people would drink out of their hands cupped together. The handle just squeezes out of your hand with this beautiful land neatly carved square window you can use to hang the cup from.

It to me is something I think would look nice as a kitchen line of measuring cups and other kitchenware.

This is the perfect cup for the minimalist not just in how small it’ll pack (it’ll fit in your cooking pot), but minimalist in form. Sometimes with objects I eat and drink with I wish I could remove everything from the object that isn’t necessary..trim all the fat away so you almost don’t even feel like you’re holding anything. It sneaks in. When Im eating or drinking, the star of the show ins’t the vessel that carries the drink, it’s the sip. But… I guess it’s about the vessel too.

  • this vessel has cracked. If you’re interested in it and don’t mind a little experimental mending, I usually can have a repair last a lifetime. It’s also easy to fix. Email me before purchasing!
