This knife is ready for a slicin’ a lifetime of wood shavings.

Curly silver maple stained with tree resin, tung oil, and added layers of French ultramarine blue artist oil paint rubbed back and fourth to give a rich almost indigo patina.

If you didn’t hear yesterday’s story, these knives were made in collaboration with Josh Whitehead of @greenhavenforge a while back. I have this ten year old Sloyd knife that is my workhorse tool for finishing. It just does it all and after years of modifying it, it’s become this point little shaving factory, and the slender tip is great for tight turns on those spoon necks or other tight radius corners.

Please note that I just oiled this knife and you’ll have to let it sit for a week or two to dry or else you may rub some of the blue off. Over hard use you’ll build a rich layer over the blue and that’s where the real magic begins.
